NEWSLETTER 2013

Dear Member,

At long last after two years of meetings, phone calls, numerous letters, emails, and legalities our club has a new home.

You may recall this time last year a planning application had been submitted to the local council and we were hoping to start excavating as soon as possible. Well things didn’t quite go to plan, the new owner of Lake View House (nothing to do with the fishery) objected very strongly to our plans. This caused a considerable delay and whilst his objections were finally over ruled by the council there was obviously going to be a problem.Fortunately for us the fishery owner came up with a solution. We gave up on the Stock pond lake and instead took over Pool lake, (now called the Club Lake) complete with all of its fish stocks. This is the first lake on the left as you enter the fishery complex and is for club members only. The fish we had stocked into the Stock pond have been recovered and put into our lake along with an additional stocking of Crucian Carp.

The working parties have been busy over the last few weeks repairing and refitting platforms. Overhanging trees and shrubs have been cut back and tidied, the lakeside paths are being realigned and re-laid where required. Some of the cost of this work is being paid for thanks to a grant awarded by Leicestershire and Rutland Sport.

Early catch reports have been promising with some good mixed bags up to 35lb being reported. The first few matches were slightly disappointing during the winter months but weights are showing a steady improvement now that the warmer weather is here.
The lake is not an out and out carp pool, there is a large stock of silver fish to go for including reputedly some big barbel.

More good news is no increase in membership prices. Adults still pay £40 a year while juniors and senior citizens only pay £20. Great value for a full years fishing at one of the East Midlands premier fisheries. Don’t forget that your membership card also gets you 5% discount at Melton Angling (terms and conditions apply)
Membership renewal follows the usual format. Just return your membership card along with the appropriate fee and SAE to membership secretary Steve Barnard at the address on the card. For a very limited period the three year qualifying period has been suspended so any one joining at the moment will get instant access to all lakes at Lakeview. This offer is only available for a short time so if you know of anyone thinking of joining, let them know and tell them to get in quick!

This years AGM was a quiet one. All club officials were re-elected. So that means I’m here for another year to deal with any general enquiries while the man for any match or competition queries is Paul Clifton (01664 854710)
Next years AGM is moving from its traditional Sunday morning slot to a Monday evening so that none of us have to miss out on fishing time.

Hope to meet many of you on the lakeside and wishing you a successful year,

Mike Smith
